Telescope Type

James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)
a)it sees mostly infrared and some visible light waves. It is sensitive to light from 0.6

c)unknown because it hasn't been sent into space yet

d)it uses a segmented primary mirror, adjusted to shape after launch, ultra-lightweight beryllium optics, microshutters that enable programmable object selection for the spectrograph, and a cryocooler for cooling the mid-IR detectors to 7K.

Notes on Stellar Spectra

1. absorption spectra because we see all the colors except the ones absorbed (they show up as black lines)

2. closer because when something is farther away it barely looks like it is moving

3. Luminosity and brightness

4. nuclear fusions, Hydrogen fuses to form Helium which causes a loss in mass. the mass is converted into energy

5. magnitude is the appearance from earth but intensity is the actual brightness

Escaping the Sun

Part A
As the number of layers increases the interactions increase. exponential because it makes a curve

Part B
it is more accurate because we used one hundred particles instead of 1

Part C
as energy increases, wavelength decreases. as energy increases, more photons are detected

Part D
different gases detected different amounts of photons, every gas has its own thing, just like the light emissions, i think you would get the same patterns every time

Annie Cannon and the spectra

If I were to dedicate my hole life to something I would chose football. I love football more then anything and I would love to spend my whole life playing it

Electromagnetic Radiation

Our radio station use FM and AM radio waves from the electromagnetic spectrum. I wouldn't be able to listen to music, and our radios are a good source of getting information out to people.

What is up with Mercury?

we got 5 different readings back
a. these show that mercury is rotating very slowly
b. over time the waves became less intense
c. we got 5 different readings because of the roundness of the planet and it also shows that it took us longer to get different readings

Moons of Jupiter

a. there is a pattern of big waves then little waves, this shows that the planets are moving on a ellipsis
b. he realized that the moons move in ellipsis around Jupiter so he figured out that the planets do the same thing around the sun
c.it changes speeds greatly because it very elliptical
d. Kepler said that the planets move in an ellipsis and Jupiter's moons do that

What is it?

What happened at the Tunguska explosion?

I agree with the theory that it was a asteroid that exploded 3 miles above the earth.
-it explains why there was no debris from the asteroid or a crater
-it caused a blast downward that moved all the trees
-the explosion had enough magnitude to cause the mutations

Scaling the Solar System

-If the solar system was the length of Powell's hallway, and her room was the sun the earth would only be 3 ft from her door and Neptune would be my Jared's room. I beleive this because I used a scale of 150 ft(length of hallway) for the solar system and then figured out where the planets would be.

-If you were 3 years old on Neptune you would be 495.7 years old on Earth. It takes that much longer for Neptune to travel around the sun then Earth because it is so much further from the sun.

-if you weighed 200lbs on earth, you would weigh 225lbs on Neptune. You would the most on the planet Jupiter where you weigh 472.8lbs. It matters because the planets weigh different amounts and the heavier the planet the more gravitational pole it has on you.

Neptune

-Neptune is the furthest planet from the sun
-Neptune rotates every 16 hours
-it orbits the sun every 165 years
-it is the smallest of the giant planets
-Neptune has 13 moons and several small rings
